[845] [The Blessed One replied:]
"Having faith in the Dhamma of the Arahants for the attainment of Nibbāna,
one eager to listen¹ gains wisdom (paññā), being heedful and discerning.
Acting befittingly, shouldering his burden, one who exerts himself finds wealth;
by truth (sacca) one attains renown; giving, one binds friends to oneself.
In whichever faithful householder these four qualities (dhammā) are found —
truth, Dhamma, steadfastness (dhiti), and generosity (cāga) —
he truly, having passed away, does not sorrow.
Come now, ask the many other ascetics and brahmins as well,
whether anything greater is found here than truth, self-control (dama), generosity, and patience (khanti)."
