[885] Then, bhikkhus, Sakka, lord of the devas, addressed Mātali the charioteer in a verse: "The nests, Mātali, in the silk-cotton wood— turn away from them with the chariot pole. Willingly let us give up our life to the asuras, but let these birds not be left bereft of their nests." "So be it, Your Lordship," bhikkhus, Mātali the charioteer replied to Sakka, lord of the devas, and he turned back the chariot yoked with a thousand thoroughbreds.
