[896] Then, bhikkhus, Vepacitti, lord of the asuras, having put on his boots with many-layered soles, slung on his sword, and with a parasol borne over him, entered the hermitage through the main gate; and he strode past those seers, virtuous and of fine character, keeping not even a fathom's distance from them.
Then, bhikkhus, Sakka, lord of the devas, having taken off his boots, handed his sword to others, and put down his parasol, entered the hermitage by the [ordinary] gate; and he stood downwind of those seers, virtuous and of fine character, venerating them with his palms joined in reverence.
