[939] Then, bhikkhus, Mātali the charioteer addressed Sakka, lord of the devas, in verse: "It is these, indeed, who should pay homage to you— mortals lying in a putrid body, sunk within a corpse, beset by hunger and thirst. Why then do you envy them, the homeless ones, O Vāsava? Declare the conduct of the seers; let us hear that word of yours."
