[98] Then another devatā (deity) uttered this inspired utterance (udāna) in the presence of the Blessed One: "Good indeed, dear sir (mārisa), is giving; even when one has but little, giving is good; giving out of faith, too, is good; and further, giving to one who has gained the Dhamma (dhammaladdha) is also good. Whatever person (jantu) gives a gift to one who has gained the Dhamma, to one who has attained it through exertion and energy (vīriya) — having passed beyond the Vetaraṇī of Yama, that mortal reaches the heavenly abodes."
