[113] "Very good, very good, Sāriputta! This too, Sāriputta, is a method of explaining in brief that same matter: 'Whatever is felt is included within suffering (dukkha).' But if, Sāriputta, they were to question you thus: 'Friend Sāriputta, through what kind of liberation (vimokkha) have you declared final knowledge (aññā): "I understand: birth is destroyed, the holy life (brahmacariya) has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more of this state of being"?' — being questioned thus, Sāriputta, how would you answer?"
"If, venerable sir, they were to question me thus: 'Friend Sāriputta, through what kind of liberation have you declared final knowledge: "I understand: birth is destroyed, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more of this state of being"?' — being questioned thus, venerable sir, I would answer thus: 'Friend, through an internal liberation, through the destruction of all clinging (upādāna), I dwell mindful in such a way that, as I dwell thus mindful, the taints (āsava) do not flow in upon me, and I do not disparage myself.' Being questioned thus, venerable sir, I would answer thus."
