[123] "And what, bhikkhus, is birth (jāti)? … And what, bhikkhus, is existence (bhava)? … And what, bhikkhus, is clinging (upādāna)? … And what, bhikkhus, is craving (taṇhā)? … And what, bhikkhus, is feeling (vedanā)? … And what, bhikkhus, is contact (phassa)? … And what, bhikkhus, are the six sense bases (saḷāyatana)? … And what, bhikkhus, is name-and-form (nāmarūpa)? … And what, bhikkhus, is consciousness? … And what, bhikkhus, are volitional formations (saṅkhārā)? There are these three volitional formations, bhikkhus: the bodily formation, the verbal formation, and the mental formation. These, bhikkhus, are called volitional formations. With the origin of ignorance there is the origin of volitional formations; with the cessation of ignorance there is the cessation of volitional formations. This very Noble Eightfold Path is the way of practice leading to the cessation of volitional formations, namely: right view … right concentration (samādhi)."
