Paṭipadāsutta

[20] The Blessed One said this: "And what, bhikkhus, is the wrong way of practice (micchāpaṭipadā)? With ignorance (avijjā) as condition, bhikkhus, volitional formations (saṅkhārā) [come to be]; with volitional formations as condition, consciousness … Thus is the origin of this whole mass of suffering (dukkha). This, bhikkhus, is called the wrong way of practice."
