[203] "Bhikkhus, suppose an oil lamp were burning in dependence on oil and in dependence on a wick, and a man did not from time to time pour in oil or attend to the wick. Then, bhikkhus, that oil lamp — through the exhaustion of the former fuel (upādāna) and the non-supplying of another — being without sustenance, would be extinguished. In the same way, bhikkhus, for one who dwells contemplating danger (ādīnava) in things that fetter, craving (taṇhā) ceases. With the cessation of craving comes the cessation of clinging (upādāna) … Such is the cessation of this whole mass of suffering (dukkha)."
