[258] Then further, exploring, he explores the inward exploration (sammasati antaraṃ sammasaṃ): "But this craving (taṇhā), when it arises, where does it arise? When it settles, where does it settle?" Exploring, he knows thus: "Whatever in the world is pleasing and agreeable (piyarūpaṃ sātarūpaṃ) — it is here that this craving, when it arises, arises; it is here that, when it settles, it settles." And what in the world is pleasing and agreeable? The eye is pleasing and agreeable in the world … the ear is pleasing and agreeable in the world … the nose is pleasing and agreeable in the world … the tongue is pleasing and agreeable in the world … the body is pleasing and agreeable in the world … the mind is pleasing and agreeable in the world: it is here that this craving, when it arises, arises; it is here that, when it settles, it settles.
