[272] Then the Venerable Nārada said to the Venerable Paviṭṭha: "Good, friend Paviṭṭha! May I receive that question. Ask the question thus; I will answer that question for you."
"The Venerable Nārada receives that question. I ask the Venerable Nārada that question, and may the Venerable Nārada answer that question for me. Friend Nārada, apart from faith (saddhā), apart from personal preference (ruci), apart from oral tradition, apart from reasoned reflection, apart from acceptance of a view after consideration — does the Venerable Nārada have personal knowledge (ñāṇa): 'With birth (jāti) as condition, there are aging and death (jarā-maraṇa)'?"
"Friend Paviṭṭha, apart from faith, apart from personal preference, apart from oral tradition, apart from reasoned reflection, apart from acceptance of a view after consideration, I know this, I see this: 'With birth as condition, there are aging and death.'"
