[282] Now at that time, it is said, final knowledge (aññā) had been declared by many bhikkhus in the presence of the Blessed One: "We understand: 'Birth is destroyed, the holy life (brahmacariya) has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more coming to this state of being.'"
The Venerable Susima heard: "It is said that final knowledge has been declared by many bhikkhus in the presence of the Blessed One: 'We understand: Birth is destroyed, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more coming to this state of being.'"
Then the Venerable Susima approached those bhikkhus; having approached, he exchanged greetings with those bhikkhus, and when the courteous and amiable talk was concluded, he sat down to one side. Seated to one side, the Venerable Susima said to those bhikkhus: "Is it true, as is said, that the venerable ones have declared final knowledge in the presence of the Blessed One: 'We understand: Birth is destroyed, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more coming to this state of being'?"
"So it is, friend."
