[34] "Venerable sir, who, then, feels?"
"That is not a fitting question," the Blessed One said. "I do not say 'one feels.' If I were to say 'one feels,' then it would be fitting to ask, 'Venerable sir, who, then, feels?' But I do not speak thus. If one were to question me, who do not speak thus, in this way: 'Venerable sir, with what as condition is there feeling (vedanā)?' — that is a fitting question. And the fitting explanation to that is: 'With contact (phassa) as condition, feeling; with feeling as condition, craving (taṇhā).'"
