[345] "And what, bhikkhus, is the way in which, in dependence on the diversity of elements (dhātu), there arises the diversity of perceptions; in dependence on the diversity of perceptions there arises the diversity of intentions (saṅkappa); in dependence on the diversity of intentions there arises the diversity of desires (chanda); in dependence on the diversity of desires there arises the diversity of fevers (pariḷāha); in dependence on the diversity of fevers there arises the diversity of searches (pariyesanā)?
"In dependence on the form element (rūpadhātu), bhikkhus, there arises perception of form; in dependence on perception of form there arises intention regarding form; in dependence on intention regarding form there arises desire for form; in dependence on desire for form there arises fever for form; in dependence on fever for form there arises the search for form. … In dependence on the dhamma element (dhammadhātu) there arises perception of dhammas; in dependence on perception of dhammas there arises intention regarding dhammas; in dependence on intention regarding dhammas there arises desire for dhammas; in dependence on desire for dhammas there arises fever for dhammas; in dependence on fever for dhammas there arises the search for dhammas.
"It is in this way, bhikkhus, that in dependence on the diversity of elements there arises the diversity of perceptions; in dependence on the diversity of perceptions there arises the diversity of intentions; in dependence on the diversity of intentions there arises the diversity of desires; in dependence on the diversity of desires there arises the diversity of fevers; in dependence on the diversity of fevers there arises the diversity of searches."
