[372] This is what the Blessed One said. Having said this, the Fortunate One (Sugata), the Teacher, further said this:
From association the thicket is born;
by non-association it is cut off.
Just as one who has climbed upon a small piece of wood
would sink in the great ocean,
so even one of good livelihood sinks
by relying upon a lazy person.
Therefore one should avoid such a one—
lazy, of inferior energy—
and dwell together with the wise:
the secluded, the noble ones,
the resolute, the meditators,
those with energy constantly aroused.
