[460] Bhikkhus, at present the designation of this mountain has arisen as simply "Vepulla." And at present, bhikkhus, the designation of these people has arisen as simply "Māgadhakas." The lifespan of the Māgadhaka people, bhikkhus, is short, limited, and fleeting; one who lives long lives a hundred years or a little more. The Māgadhaka people, bhikkhus, climb Mount Vepulla in but a moment and descend in but a moment. And at present, bhikkhus, this Arahant, the Perfectly Enlightened One (sammāsambuddha), has arisen in the world. And I, bhikkhus, have a pair of disciples named Sāriputta and Moggallāna, a chief pair, an excellent pair. There will come a time, bhikkhus, when this designation of this mountain will disappear, these people will pass away, and I shall attain final Nibbāna. So impermanent, bhikkhus, are formations (saṅkhārā); so unstable, bhikkhus, are formations; so unconsoling, bhikkhus, are formations. So much so, bhikkhus, that this is enough to become disenchanted with all formations, enough to become dispassionate toward them, enough to be liberated from them.
