[473] Bhikkhus, Kassapa teaches the Dhamma to others with a mind such as this: "The Dhamma is well expounded (svākkhāto) by the Blessed One, directly visible (sandiṭṭhiko), timeless (akāliko), inviting one to come and see (ehipassiko), onward-leading (opanayiko), to be personally experienced by the wise (paccattaṃ veditabbo viññūhi). Oh, that they might hear the Dhamma from me! And having heard it, that they might understand the Dhamma! And having understood it, that they might practise accordingly!" Thus, on account of the intrinsic excellence of the Dhamma, he teaches the Dhamma to others; on account of compassion, he teaches the Dhamma to others; on account of tender concern, he teaches the Dhamma to others; out of sympathy, he teaches the Dhamma to others. Bhikkhus, I shall exhort you by the example of Kassapa, or by one who may be like Kassapa; and being exhorted, you should practise accordingly.
