[475] The Blessed One said this: "Bhikkhus, whatever bhikkhu approaches families with a mind such as this: 'May they give to me only; may they not fail to give. May they give to me much only, not little. May they give to me only what is fine, not what is coarse. May they give to me quickly only, not slowly. May they give to me respectfully only, not disrespectfully' — if, bhikkhus, when that bhikkhu with such a mind approaches families, they do not give, the bhikkhu is hurt thereby; on that account he experiences suffering (dukkha) and grief. They give little, not much … they give what is coarse, not what is fine; they give slowly, not quickly — the bhikkhu is hurt thereby; on that account he experiences suffering and grief. They give disrespectfully, not respectfully — the bhikkhu is hurt thereby; on that account he experiences suffering and grief. Such a bhikkhu, bhikkhus, is not worthy to be a frequenter of families."
