[479] When the Venerable Mahākassapa had sat down to one side, the Blessed One said this to him: "You are now old, Kassapa, and these worn-out hempen rag-robes of yours are heavy. Therefore, Kassapa, wear robes given by householders, eat meals to which you are invited, and dwell in my presence."
"Venerable sir, for a long time I have been a forest dweller and one who speaks in praise of forest dwelling; an alms-food eater and one who speaks in praise of eating alms-food; a wearer of rag-robes and one who speaks in praise of wearing rag-robes; a wearer of the three robes and one who speaks in praise of wearing the three robes; one of few wishes and one who speaks in praise of fewness of wishes; contented and one who speaks in praise of contentment; secluded and one who speaks in praise of seclusion; aloof from society and one who speaks in praise of aloofness from society; one of aroused energy (vīriya) and one who speaks in praise of arousing energy."
