[493] "Kassapa, whoever has faith (saddhā) in wholesome qualities (kusalā dhammā), has moral shame (hiri) … has fear of wrongdoing (ottappa) … has energy (vīriya) … has wisdom (paññā) in wholesome qualities — for him, whatever night or day comes, only growth in wholesome qualities is to be expected, not decline. Just as, Kassapa, in the waxing fortnight, whatever night or day comes, the moon grows in beauty, grows in roundness, grows in radiance, grows in height and breadth — even so, Kassapa, whoever has faith in wholesome qualities, has moral shame … has fear of wrongdoing … has energy … has wisdom in wholesome qualities — for him, whatever night or day comes, only growth in wholesome qualities is to be expected, not decline.
'The person is one of faith' — this, Kassapa, is non-decline. 'One with moral shame' … 'One with fear of wrongdoing' … 'One of aroused energy' … 'One possessed of wisdom' … 'One free from anger' … 'The person is one who bears no grudge' — this, Kassapa, is non-decline. 'There are bhikkhus who give exhortation' — this, Kassapa, is non-decline."
