Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Nidānavaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 16 · Section 498

[498] "Bhikkhus, whenever I wish, with the stilling of thought and examination (vitakka-vicāra), I enter and dwell in the second jhāna (jhāna), which has internal confidence (sampasādana) and unification of mind (ekodibhāva of citta), is without thought and without examination, and has rapture (pīti) and happiness born of concentration (samādhi). Kassapa too, bhikkhus, whenever he wishes, with the stilling of thought and examination … enters and dwells in the second jhāna."
