[516] "What do you think, friend Ānanda? Have you ever been brought forward by the Blessed One in the presence of the Saṅgha of bhikkhus thus: 'Bhikkhus, with the destruction of the taints (āsava), having realized it for myself with direct knowledge (abhiññā), I enter upon and dwell in the taintless liberation of mind (cetovimutti) and liberation by wisdom (paññāvimutti) in this very life; Ānanda too, bhikkhus, with the destruction of the taints, having realized it for himself with direct knowledge, enters upon and dwells in the taintless liberation of mind and liberation by wisdom in this very life'?"
