[563] Bhikkhus, here, having encompassed mind (citta) with mind, I understand a certain person thus: "This venerable one would not speak a deliberate lie even for the sake of a silver bowl filled with gold powder." Yet on a later occasion I see him — overcome by gain, honour, and fame, his mind overwhelmed — speaking a deliberate lie. So dreadful, bhikkhus, are gain, honour, and fame … Thus indeed, bhikkhus, should you train yourselves. The second [sutta].
