[662] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park. There the Blessed One … "Bhikkhus, just as whatever rafters there are of a peaked house all lead up to the peak, converge upon the peak, and are removed with the removal of the peak — all of them go to removal — even so, bhikkhus, whatever unwholesome states (akusalā dhammā) there are, all of them are rooted in ignorance (avijjā), converge upon ignorance, and are eradicated with the eradication of ignorance — all of them go to eradication. Therefore, bhikkhus, you should train thus: 'We shall dwell heedful (appamattā).' Thus indeed, bhikkhus, should you train."
