[718] When the Venerable Thera had sat down to one side, the Blessed One said this to him: "Is it true, Thera, that you are one who dwells alone and who speaks in praise of dwelling alone?"
"Yes, venerable sir."
"But in what way, Thera, are you one who dwells alone and one who speaks in praise of dwelling alone?"
"Here, venerable sir, alone I enter the village for alms, alone I return, alone I sit in seclusion, alone I undertake walking meditation (caṅkama). It is in this way, venerable sir, that I am one who dwells alone and one who speaks in praise of dwelling alone."
