[88] He was dwelling at Sāvatthī. … "Bhikkhus, with ignorance (avijjā) as condition, volitional formations (saṅkhārā) come to be; with volitional formations as condition, consciousness (viññāṇa) … Thus is the origin (samudaya) of this whole mass of suffering (dukkha)."
