[158] At Sāvatthī. There… Bhikkhus, whatever ascetics or brahmins, when recollecting, recollect their manifold past abodes (pubbenivāsa), all of them recollect the five aggregates subject to clinging, or a certain one among them. Which five? "I was of such form in the past" — recollecting thus, bhikkhus, one recollects just form. "I was of such feeling (vedanā) in the past" — recollecting thus, bhikkhus, one recollects just feeling. "I was of such perception in the past" … . "I was of such volitional formations in the past" … . "I was of such consciousness in the past" — recollecting thus, bhikkhus, one recollects just consciousness.
