[168] Bhikkhus, there are these three unwholesome thoughts (akusalavitakkā): the thought of sensuality (kāmavitakko), the thought of ill will (byāpādavitakko), and the thought of harming (vihiṃsāvitakko). And where, bhikkhus, do these three unwholesome thoughts cease without remainder? For one who dwells with a mind (citta) well established in the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), or for one who develops the signless concentration (animitta samādhi), they cease without remainder. This much, bhikkhus, is reason enough to develop the signless concentration. The signless concentration, bhikkhus, when developed and cultivated, is of great fruit and of great benefit.
