[172] Then the Blessed One, wandering on tour by stages, arrived at Pālileyyaka. There the Blessed One dwelt at Pālileyyaka at the foot of the auspicious sāl tree (bhaddasālamūla). Then a number of bhikkhus approached the Venerable Ānanda; having approached, they exchanged greetings with the Venerable Ānanda, and when they had concluded their courteous and amiable talk, they sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, those bhikkhus said this to the Venerable Ānanda: "It has been long, friend Ānanda, since we heard a Dhamma talk in the presence of the Blessed One. We wish, friend Ānanda, to hear a Dhamma talk in the presence of the Blessed One."
Then the Venerable Ānanda, together with those bhikkhus, approached the Blessed One at the foot of the auspicious sāl tree at Pālileyyaka; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side. And the Blessed One instructed, exhorted, inspired, and gladdened those bhikkhus, sitting to one side, with a Dhamma talk.
