[173] Now on that occasion this reflection arose in the mind of a certain bhikkhu: "How, then, does one know, how does one see, such that the destruction of the taints (āsava) occurs immediately?"
Then the Blessed One, having known with his own mind the reflection in that bhikkhu's mind, addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, the Dhamma has been taught by me with discrimination (vicayaso); the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) have been taught with discrimination; the four right strivings (sammappadhāna) have been taught with discrimination; the four bases of spiritual power (iddhipāda) have been taught with discrimination; the five faculties (indriya) have been taught with discrimination; the five powers (bala) have been taught with discrimination; the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) have been taught with discrimination; the Noble Eightfold Path (magga) has been taught with discrimination. Thus, bhikkhus, the Dhamma has been taught by me with discrimination; thus indeed, bhikkhus, the Dhamma has been taught by me with discrimination. And yet, here this reflection arose in the mind of a certain bhikkhu: 'How, then, does one know, how does one see, such that the destruction of the taints occurs immediately?'"
