[183] Then a certain bhikkhu, rising from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, raised his joined palms in reverence toward the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, I would ask the Blessed One about a certain point, if the Blessed One would grant me the opportunity for the answering of the question."
"Well then, bhikkhu, sit down on your own seat and ask what you wish."
"Yes, venerable sir," that bhikkhu replied to the Blessed One; and having sat down on his own seat, he said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, are these the five aggregates subject to clinging (pañcupādānakkhandhā)? That is: the form (rūpa) aggregate subject to clinging, the feeling (vedanā) aggregate subject to clinging, the perception (saññā) aggregate subject to clinging, the volitional formations (saṅkhārā) aggregate subject to clinging, the consciousness (viññāṇa) aggregate subject to clinging."
"These, bhikkhu, are the five aggregates subject to clinging. That is: the form aggregate subject to clinging … the consciousness aggregate subject to clinging."
