[184] Saying, "Good, venerable sir," that bhikkhu, having delighted in and rejoiced at the Blessed One's utterance, asked the Blessed One a further question: "But, venerable sir, in what are these five aggregates subject to clinging rooted?" "Bhikkhu, these five aggregates subject to clinging are rooted in desire (chanda)." …
"Venerable sir, is that very clinging (upādāna) the same as these five aggregates subject to clinging, or is the clinging something apart from the five aggregates subject to clinging?" "Bhikkhu, that very clinging is not the same as these five aggregates subject to clinging, nor is the clinging something apart from the five aggregates subject to clinging; rather, whatever desire and lust (chandarāga) there is therein — that is the clinging therein."
