[241] Bhikkhus, just as a blue lotus (uppala), a red lotus (paduma), or a white lotus (puṇḍarīka), born in the water and grown up in the water, rises above the water and stands unsoiled by the water — even so, bhikkhus, the Tathāgata, born in the world and grown up in the world, dwells having overcome the world, unsoiled by the world.
