[287] And what, bhikkhus, is the cessation of identity (sakkāyanirodha)? It is the remainderless fading away (virāga) and cessation of that very craving (taṇhā), the giving up, the relinquishment, the release, the non-reliance. This, bhikkhus, is called the cessation of identity.
