[309] At Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, I will teach you the things that can be clung to (upādāniyā dhammā) and the clinging (upādāna). Listen to that. And what, bhikkhus, are the things that can be clung to, and what is the clinging? Form (rūpa), bhikkhus, is a thing that can be clung to; the desire and lust (chandarāga) for it is the clinging therein. Feeling (vedanā) … perception … volitional formations … consciousness is a thing that can be clung to; the desire and lust for it is the clinging therein. These, bhikkhus, are called the things that can be clung to, and this the clinging."
