[350] At Sāvatthī. There … "Bhikkhus, when what exists, by clinging to what, by adhering to what, does such a view (diṭṭhi) as this arise: 'That is the self, that is the world; having passed away, I shall be permanent, stable, eternal, not subject to change'?"

"Bhikkhus, when form (rūpa) exists, by clinging to form, by adhering to form, such a view as this arises: 'That is the self, that is the world; having passed away, I shall be permanent, stable, eternal, not subject to change.' When feeling (vedanā) exists … When perception (saññā) exists … When volitional formations (saṅkhārā) exist … When consciousness (viññāṇa) exists, by clinging to consciousness, by adhering to consciousness, such a view as this arises: 'That is the self, that is the world; having passed away, I shall be permanent, stable, eternal, not subject to change.'"
