[421] At Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, when what exists, clinging to what, adhering to what, does a view (diṭṭhi) such as this arise: 'That is the self (attā), that is the world; having passed away, that I shall be—permanent, stable, eternal, not subject to change'?"

"Bhikkhus, when form exists, clinging to form, adhering to form, a view such as this arises: 'That is the self … not subject to change.' When feeling (vedanā) exists …. When perception exists. When volitional formations exist. When consciousness exists, clinging to consciousness, adhering to consciousness, a view such as this arises: 'That is the self, that is the world; having passed away, that I shall be—permanent, stable, eternal, not subject to change.'"
