[469] At Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, the eye is impermanent, changing, becoming otherwise; the ear is impermanent, changing, becoming otherwise; the nose is impermanent, changing, becoming otherwise; the tongue is impermanent, changing, becoming otherwise; the body is impermanent, changing, becoming otherwise; the mind (mano) is impermanent, changing, becoming otherwise.
"Bhikkhus, one who places faith in these dhammas and resolves upon them thus is called a faith-follower (saddhānusārī): one who has entered the fixed course of rightness (sammattaniyāma), entered the plane of good persons (sappurisabhūmi), and transcended the plane of worldlings (puthujjanabhūmi); he is incapable of doing any deed by reason of which he might be reborn in hell (niraya), in the animal realm (tiracchānayoni), or in the domain of ghosts (pittivisaya); he is incapable of passing away so long as he has not realized the fruit of stream-entry (sotāpattiphala).
"Bhikkhus, one for whom these dhammas are accepted thus, after being pondered to a sufficient degree with wisdom, is called a Dhamma-follower (dhammānusārī): one who has entered the fixed course of rightness, entered the plane of good persons, and transcended the plane of worldlings; he is incapable of doing any deed by reason of which he might be reborn in hell, in the animal realm, or in the domain of ghosts; he is incapable of passing away so long as he has not realized the fruit of stream-entry.
"Bhikkhus, one who knows and sees these dhammas thus is called a stream-enterer (sotāpanna), no longer subject to the lower world (avinipātadhamma), fixed in destiny, with awakening as his final goal (sambodhiparāyana)."
