[47] At Sāvatthī. There indeed … "Bhikkhus, form (rūpa) is non-self (anattā). Whatever cause and whatever condition there is for the arising of form, that too is non-self. Bhikkhus, when form has originated from what is non-self, how could it be self? Feeling (vedanā) is non-self. Perception (saññā) is non-self. Volitional formations (saṅkhārā) are non-self. Consciousness (viññāṇa) is non-self. Whatever cause and whatever condition there is for the arising of consciousness, that too is non-self. Bhikkhus, when consciousness has originated from what is non-self, how could it be self? Seeing thus … he understands: '… there is no more for this state of being.'"
