[499] At Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, the desire and lust (chandarāga) for the eye — that is a corruption (upakkilesa) of the mind (citta). The desire and lust for the ear — that is a corruption of the mind. The desire and lust for the nose — that is a corruption of the mind. The desire and lust for the tongue — that is a corruption of the mind. The desire and lust for the body — that is a corruption of the mind. The desire and lust for the mental faculty — that is a corruption of the mind.
Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu has abandoned the corruption of the mind in these six cases, his mind inclines to renunciation (nekkhamma); and a mind fortified by renunciation appears workable for those things that are to be realized by direct knowledge (abhiññā).
