[500] At Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, the desire and lust (chandarāga) for forms — that is a corruption (upakkilesa) of the mind (citta). The desire and lust for sounds … for odours … for tastes … for tangibles … the desire and lust for mental phenomena (dhammā) — that is a corruption of the mind. Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu has abandoned the corruption of the mind in these six cases, his mind (citta) inclines to renunciation (nekkhamma); a mind fully developed by renunciation appears workable for those things that are to be realized by direct knowledge (abhiññā).
