[9] "Friends (āvuso), if for one who lives having entered upon unwholesome states (akusala dhammā) there were a pleasant abiding in this very life, free from vexation, free from despair, free from fever, and if after the breakup of the body, after death, a good destination were to be expected, the Blessed One would not praise the abandoning of unwholesome states. But because, friends, for one who lives having entered upon unwholesome states there is a painful abiding in this very life, with vexation, with despair, with fever, and after the breakup of the body, after death, a bad destination is to be expected, therefore the Blessed One praises the abandoning of unwholesome states."
