[189] "Bhikkhus, I will teach you the things that are subject to the fetters (saññojaniyā dhammā) and the fetter (saṃyojana). Listen to that. And what, bhikkhus, are the things subject to the fetters, and what is the fetter? There are, bhikkhus, forms (rūpa) cognizable by the eye that are wished for, lovely, agreeable, pleasing, connected with sensuality, provoking of lust. These, bhikkhus, are called the things subject to the fetters. The desire and lust (chandarāga) therein — that is the fetter therein. … There are, bhikkhus, tastes cognizable by the tongue … There are, bhikkhus, dhammas cognizable by the mind that are wished for, lovely, agreeable, pleasing, connected with sensuality, provoking of lust. These, bhikkhus, are called the things subject to the fetters. The desire and lust therein — that is the fetter therein."
