[208] "It is wonderful, Master Kaccāna! It is marvellous, Master Kaccāna! — how one who is in fact with unguarded doors has been declared by Master Kaccāna to be 'one with unguarded doors.' Master Kaccāna has spoken of 'one with guarded doors.' In what way, Master Kaccāna, is one with guarded doors?"
"Here, brahmin, a bhikkhu, having seen a form with the eye, does not become intent upon a pleasing form, does not become averse toward a displeasing form; he dwells with mindfulness established, with a measureless mind (citta), and he understands as it really is that liberation of mind (cetovimutti) and liberation by wisdom (paññāvimutti) wherein those arisen evil, unwholesome states of his cease without remainder. Having heard a sound with the ear … Having smelled an odour with the nose … Having tasted a flavour with the tongue … Having touched a tangible with the body … Having cognized a dhamma with the mind, he does not become intent upon a pleasing dhamma, does not become averse toward a displeasing dhamma; he dwells with mindfulness established, with a measureless mind, and he understands as it really is that liberation of mind and liberation by wisdom wherein those arisen evil, unwholesome states of his cease without remainder. It is in this way, brahmin, that one is with guarded doors."
