[250] On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rājagaha, in Jīvaka's Mango Grove. There the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus … "Bhikkhus, withdrawn in seclusion (paṭisallīna), devote yourselves to exertion (yoga). For a bhikkhu who is secluded, things become manifest as they really are (yathābhūta). And what, bhikkhus, becomes manifest as it really is? The eye becomes manifest as it really is as impermanent; forms become manifest as they really are as impermanent; eye-consciousness becomes manifest as it really is as impermanent; eye-contact becomes manifest as it really is as impermanent; and whatever feeling (vedanā) arises with eye-contact as condition — whether pleasant, painful, or neither-painful-nor-pleasant — that too becomes manifest as it really is as impermanent. … The mind (mano) becomes manifest as it really is as impermanent; dhammas, mind-consciousness, mind-contact, and whatever feeling arises with mind-contact as condition — whether pleasant, painful, or neither-painful-nor-pleasant — that too becomes manifest as it really is as impermanent. Bhikkhus, withdrawn in seclusion, devote yourselves to exertion. For a bhikkhu who is secluded, things become manifest as they really are."
