[311] Then, bhikkhus, that man—frightened of the four vipers (āsīvisā) of fierce heat and dreadful venom, and frightened of the five murderous enemies—would flee this way or that. They would say to him: "Good man, this sixth murderer, one who moves in your very midst, with sword upraised, is following close behind you, [thinking:] 'Wherever I see him, right there I shall make his head fall.' Whatever, good man, needs to be done by you, do it."
