[358] "'I am' (asmi), bhikkhus — this is an involvement with conceit (māna). 'This I am' — this is an involvement with conceit. 'I shall be' — this is an involvement with conceit. 'I shall not be' — this is an involvement with conceit. 'I shall be possessed of form' — this is an involvement with conceit. 'I shall be formless' — this is an involvement with conceit. 'I shall be percipient' — this is an involvement with conceit. 'I shall be non-percipient' — this is an involvement with conceit. 'I shall be neither percipient nor non-percipient' — this is an involvement with conceit. An involvement with conceit, bhikkhus, is a disease; an involvement with conceit is a tumor; an involvement with conceit is a dart. Therefore, bhikkhus, you should train thus: 'We shall dwell with a mind in which conceit has been struck down.' Thus indeed, bhikkhus, should you train."

The venomous snakes, the chariot, the tortoise,
the two with the log, the corrupted;
states of suffering, the kiṃsuka, the lute,
the six animals, and the one with the sheaf of barley.
