[366] One who cannot endure (nādhivāseti) these arisen painful feelings (vedanā)—
bodily, carrying away life—
touched by which he trembles;
who cries out and wails aloud,
weak, of little strength:
he has not risen up in the bottomless abyss (pātāla),
nor has he even gained a foothold.
But one who endures these arisen painful feelings—
bodily, carrying away life—
touched by which he does not tremble:
if he has risen up in the bottomless abyss,
then he has indeed gained a foothold.
