[369] Bhikkhus, the uninstructed worldling (assutavā puthujjano) feels a pleasant feeling (vedanā), feels a painful feeling, and feels a neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling. Bhikkhus, the instructed noble disciple (sutavā ariyasāvako) also feels a pleasant feeling, feels a painful feeling, and feels a neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling. Therein, bhikkhus, what is the distinction, what is the disparity, what is the difference between the instructed noble disciple and the uninstructed worldling?

Bhikkhus, when the uninstructed worldling is touched by a painful feeling, he sorrows, becomes weary, laments, beats his breast and wails, and falls into confusion. He feels two feelings: a bodily one and a mental one.
