[390] Bhikkhus, just as from the rubbing (saṅghaṭṭā) and coming together of two sticks, heat is born and fire is produced, and from the separation and laying apart of those same two sticks, the heat born therefrom ceases, it subsides — even so, bhikkhus, these three feelings (vedanā) are born of contact (phassa), rooted in contact, with contact as their source, with contact as their condition. In dependence on the corresponding contact, the corresponding feeling arises; with the cessation of the corresponding contact, the corresponding feeling ceases.
